What an amazing experience. I don't really even know how to explain what it felt like, how everything was so familiar and yet still so alien. Just. Awesome.

Breath of the Wild has captured my attention in a way no other game has for quite some time. It's just... joyous, in a way? It's filled with so much to explore and do, so many interesting people, so many cool enemies. It's the sort of game where I'll pick a direction and run just to see how far I can go and what I can discover along the way.

The one thing I really don't care for so far is the sandstorms in the Gerudo desert. It's a really obnoxious mechanic, and it makes it so frustrating trying to explore the area. (On the other hand, though: I really like the fact that the desert is burning in the day and freezing at night, rather than just being 'a hot place'. On the other other hand: Gerudo Link outfit is excellent and 100% worth it.)

I'm also getting into a bit of a fic-posting slump since starting my new job. (Previously it was also a writing slump, but I think I'm starting to build my writing muscles up again? Hopefully, at least.) Even with the fic I've got finished, I keep I forgetting to post them over and over again--I've got a couple shorter pieces that could go up, but proofreading them and figuring out tags and titles and summaries... ugh. I'm hoping I'll get a bit better about it once my commute gets a little less obnoxious.

(And, in other less-obnoxious-future-commute news, I went to an Ikea in person for the first time the other day. It is a whole lot to take in, holy cow. I felt like I'd wandered into some mythological labyrinth.)

Related to the above, I've got a whole lot of fic that needs finishing--my WIPs keep breeding like bunnies. I need a fic accountability partner or something, haha.

Friends, who's excited for the eclipse?! I sure am! I live in the path of totality too so that's exciting. I've already talked to all of my professors about taking Monday off and I have my little glasses ready and everything. God, I love space. I don't understand what's going on most of the time but dang if it's not all fascinating.

Mom's going to be going with my sister to pick up the puppy in Mississippi so I'll have the house to myself this weekend. \o/ I'm really excited about this ngl. It'll be me and the puppers and the kitties, eating food and watching a ton of tv and...well, reading a ton because that is what my homework for everything is, haha. Anyway, I'm excited and I have a whole list of things I want to get done and I imagine I won't get very much of anything done.

Does anyone have any opinions about the anime Hyouka? It looks pretty cute and I really like high school mystery anime so I'm thinking it might be right up my alley. And speaking of watching things, is anyone else watching The Sinner on the USA network? Holy crap. It's intense.

The anime and young adult lit tracks for Dragon*con have posted their Saturday schedules!

I'M HYPED )

Aaaaaaaaaahhhhh. The horror track hasn't posted a schedule yet and neither has the writers track. I'm really interested to see what they've got planned.

Anyway, that's really all that's going on with me! I'm working a short day tomorrow, since my sister, the groomer, won't be there so we have exactly three bath dogs. I'll work a little bit, get off, and then have nothing of great import (or at least, nothing outside of my house) until Tuesday.

I am so hyped.

Progress This week:

Prepare and teach a class on Judaism in period - I'm reading a book on the Khazars although this is not the class I planned. This may wind up being a second class and I'll still do the one I planned though.

Post 100 situations prompts to AO3 - Well I had some difficulty figuring out how to do it on AO3 so I'm putting it on ff.net.

30 entries to monthly diary day - yep posted this month.

30 new kiva loans - did that on the 15th, I made a loan to Zamiyya Natalia for education expenses in the Dominican Republic.

Read 3 books on the Kyivan Rus - there may not be 3 English language books on the Kyivan Rus. I'm searching. Though I'm currently reading a book on the Khazars which mentions them, and I'm counting.

Listen to 90 podcasts - I listened to one about whether we've historically had a right to privacy in this country. Spoiler alert: that's a no.

Read the entire bible - I've started 1 Kings

Is anyone as disappointed in today's new as much as I am?

I just can't even find the right words other than disappointed at this point.

Progress this week
Play Recorder for Dancers - I learned a new note on the recorder, and continue working on learning to read music.

Prepare and teach a class on Judaism in period - Reading a book on the Khazars, which is the only country not to persecute Jews as it was a Jewish kingdom.

Go to 30 meetings - Attended the weekly meeting, a project night.

100 hours at aquarium 2017-2018 - 4 more hours spent at summer surfer.

Read 3 books on Kyivan Rus - I've decided this may include the Khazars, as they are quite interesting, too, and also in Kyiv and Ukraine.

Listen to 30 episodes of Philosophize This - Listened to one on Aristotle.

Read the entire Bible - Still working my way through 2 Samuel.

Go to the PSWC 140 times - Went to Creative Cafe and wrote bad poetry.

Mom and I are fostering a couple of three week old kittens and Hecky has decided they're his.

hecky sitting on top of the carrier

These kittens are a bit of a mess, covered in fleas, but they're eating very well so that's good. And of course, they're pretty dang cute! We're tentatively calling them Cagney and Lacey but I don't want to keep them so I'm mostly just calling them kitty and beebee, haha. Anyway, pictures coming soon-ish, maybe.

Classes start tomorrow and I'm very much not hyped about it. But, senior year, powering through, blah blah blah. The Nature Writers class seems like it'll be the most interesting; requirement books include an environmental science book as well as a book about Charles Darwin.

The #VisibleWomen tag on twitter has introduced me to so many wonderful artists. I'm so glad it's a thing. *___*

idk how to end this post so good night friends, good night. ♥
