Thanks to everyone who commented on the last post.

I'm okay! I actually ended up spending most of the day alone, watching SVU and playing on Pinterest. Mom and my sister went to places but I really resent my sister inviting herself over like she did (and she knew it) so I elected to be alone.

Let's see. I'll get back to fandom soon.

So, I'm thinking of doing something on here like a daily meme, some kind of friending meme. Really anything to force me to get into the habit of posting here again. I've been so out of the loop. Anyone know of good posting memes going around? Or any 30 days challenges?

I didn't feel well today but I made it through work, then went to pick up some groceries. While I was there, I decided to check my blood pressure. 172/108 with a heart rate of 100. Y i k e s. I came home, took something, and it's okay now. This Thursday is the first anniversary of my dad's death. I'm pretty sure that has something to do with it.

Handel won in the GA 16th district. This is disheartening, even though it's not that surprising. I hate this state. The south would be a great place if weren't for the people.

I'm not doing great right now, haha.

Alright, let me make an actual post instead of just fic and card claims, haha.

I spent all day watching the first half of season 14 of SVU so I could get more familiar with Barba's character (I have not seen most of these episodes! How have I already written fic, this is terrible!) and now I'm watching Fear the Walking Dead (which is actually interesting this season, what a shock!).

For original fiction writers, this showed up on my twitter timeline: JMS is having a submission call for Food of Love (LGBT romance stories). It sounds like a cute and fun call. :3

Facebook continues to be a mistake; one of my half-brothers contacted me. I'm super not interested in talking to this man. For one thing, we haven't spoken for at least 22 years. For another thing, he never reached out to my dad. My mom tried so hard to find dad's kids for him and she couldn't do it, and they certainly never reached out to us, and now dad is gone. I certainly don't have any interest in talking to pretty much anyone on my father's side of the family. Like, thanks but no thanks, you know? I dunno. I will probably just never respond.

I've made a ton of progress on writing but I'm still nowhere near where I want to be in prompt fills. So let's add another bingo card on top of it! :D :D :'D

Title: Coming 'Round
Fandom - Pairing: Law and Order: SVU - Barba/Carisi
Length: 1536 words
Summary: The early morning provided a beautiful view of the city. Carisi and Barba are too wrapped up with each other to notice.
Content Notes: Romance, dirty talk, rimming, pet names, banter.
Author Notes: Written for the 'sunrise' square of my [community profile] fffc card. UH this was suppose to be 500 words long and romance only and then whoops, porn.

To celebrate Nino's birthday, last night I watched Platina Data. I've been meaning to check that movie out for a while, because it sounded like the kind of thing I'd enjoy, but... I should have expected it to turn into pseudo-science bullshit halfway through, I guess. And pretty much negate the premise. In the end, I didn't like it at all.

Are all of Higashino Keigo's stories like this? Because I was already wary of how Laplace no Majou would be, but now I'm almost sure I won't like that one, either.

But anyway, happy birthday, Nino!

Fandom Update

Jun. 15th, 2017 05:00 pm
nanslice: ([FFXV] for real?)
[personal profile] nanslice
My mom and I watched the first episode of the fourth season of Sherlock and spoilers )

Also so I watch Law and Order: SVU, right? I know, I know, but look, it's my mom's show, it's a thing that has been around and on my tv ever since it started and it's weirdly comforting. Anyway, I've never been interested in its fandom at all. I didn't even know it had a fandom outside of like, older women on message boards or whatever.

But apparently I just need the right ship. Enter Dominick "Sonny" Carisi and Rafael Barba.

GUYS IT'S WEIRD TO BE READING FIC OF THIS SHOW???? Like, I have never had any interest ever of having anything to do with this and yet, here we are. I'm going to back and watch the 16th and 17th seasons. The 18th season, from what I remember, is basically garbage, but I'll rewatch it when it hits netflix. XD

And of course, I've got fic recs:

In Vino Veritas by [ profile] etothepii: Also known as: Sonny Carisi's Life, as Told Through Binge Drinking. (Rated E)

breaking the stones in my wall by [ profile] vlieger: "Get out of my office, detective," snaps Rafael. (Rated E)

in between (there's you and me) by [ profile] gollumgollum: He doesn't like it when things get messy. He prefers clean breaks, and he deeply appreciates that this is the first moment that Sonny has even tiptoed over the line Rafael had drawn in the sand when he'd ended things between them. He doesn't want to encourage further intrusions, further boundary testing.

That's not really what this is, tonight. Even Rafael can see that. Sonny's so quiet, so withdrawn. He's hurt and hurting, and he came to Rafael because he didn't know where else to go. (Note Rated)

What the Rain Washed Up and Away by [ profile] slashy: something small for leslielol, who asked that i write more barisi, and then prompted me both “accidental date” and “shitty weather”. (Rated G)

Treading the Riptide by [ profile] flyingwide: Barba’s narrowed eyes flashed over him, assessing, and he knew any hope he had that Barba had by some miracle not managed to catch that was futile. “And you’re still interested?” he asked, voice soft and quiet and tripping some alarm in Sonny that blared “deadly.” He’s a danger to you, his mind screamed at him. He’ll eat you alive.

No one ever accused Sonny Carisi of being a coward. Or of having a strong sense of self-preservation. (Rated E)

Absolution by [ profile] Robin: After the latest sins of the Catholic church are revealed, Carisi feels like his faith is shaken. But he finds reassurance in the last person he expected to follow him to a church. Takes place after Season 17, Episode 18: Unholiest Alliance. (Rated Teen and Up)

Also I made the mistake of reading a fic that hasn't been updated in a year and I'm so mad at myself. *___* It's so good but I have little hope of it updating. ;3;

ANYWAY, let's see. I think that's about it right now. :\a I need to find some icons now. XD

(not so brief) update!

I don't know how people recuperate from family being over for a week but I'm absolutely exhausted and I gotta go to work in about 30 minutes, so here's a more substantial update, haha.

There's was no drama between the people I thought there would be. There was certainly a great deal of disgust towards my niece (who is also that annoying boss I've mentioned) and her jackass boyfriend making out and shit at the baby's birthday party. This woman is 30 years old and was acting like a horny teenager. But for the family who were actually visiting from out of town, no drama, no arguing, it actually went well.

There are a lot of babies in this family. I held all of them.

It's so weird because okay, C and her daughters were visiting and C has always been my best friend but it's so weird how very much we're not on the same wavelength anymore. It really, really sucks. I mean, we still get along well and laugh and have good times but we're not, like, in each others brains anymore. Which, that's something we've both noticed before but it was so much more evident during this trip. I blame the baby, haha. But seriously, it really just means that our lives are going in different directions (while she's very much still interested in geeky shit, she's also very much into motherhood and being a new mother and it's true that babies tend to...take over everything. And you know, we also live half of the US away from each other which I'm sure has a big part to play. I don't know. The idea of drifting apart is normal, I guess, but it's also awful.

A friend came down from Tennessee and brought me a Tardis toy that lights up and makes sounds. He didn't realize I've not watched any new Who, haha. So I guess I'll have to do that now.

On Monday, we went to the mall! I didn't know there was a ThinkGeek store there. *___* So many Funko Pops. Also, while there we went to Sephora and I picked up the Modern Renaissance palette and some new eyeliner, and then C bought me the Make Believe in Yourself palette. Guys, I adore makeup and while I don't wear it to work (because dog hair floats everywhere) I do wear it quite a lot. :3

More fandom oriented update to come soon-ish, I just don't want this entry to be muddied.

Family is all gone.

And it's just lovely outside. Well, ok, today it rained, but the trees are green!

Here's what I've been up to.

Happy Pride!
I got in touch with an LGBTQ+ newcomer group here. They actually meet just two blocks from my place, and I really loved the group. They were preparing for the Pride parade tomorrow, and there are folks from Columbia, Mexico, Uganda, Syria, and some other countries I didn't ask about. It's the first Pride parade for at least one of them, and it kinda reminded me again what this is all for. I think I'd like to stick with that group. I didn't like the university group much - the members were on average at least ten years younger than me. Not a problem usually, but since a lot of them are still trying to figure out their place on the rainbow, I didn't really feel like at home there. Plus, I didn't want to risk running into my students and making it awkward for everyone.

Northern Lights
So, I've propped up my Nikon against various dubious objects, some of them smelly, trying to take pictures of the Northern Lights, and these are the results. Not very good, I know. Still, considering I took half of them with my hand supporting the camera, and in the middle of a city full of light pollution, it's decent enough! Next time I'll take better ones - I ordered a tripod the same night. It's arrived since then, and I'm super excited to go to Jasper in August and try to take pictures of the night sky.

I really like the Temeraire books by Naomi Novik. The first one I only found ok, because I expected the series to be a lot more predictable and limited than it then turned out to be. So, the premise is the world during the Napoleonic Wars with dragons. And at first, there's a lot of focus on Britain and dragons as aerial force. But the world quickly opens up, and the dragons are so very dragon-y - they're intelligent and have acquired speech fully as eggs, but lack experience, so arguing with a baby dragon can be hilarious (for the reader). Some human concepts they understand perfectly well, others they find silly. Naomi Novik captured traditional dragon tropes so perfectly without making them boring, writes dragons as fully developed persons but distinctly non-human, and I love this alternative history version of earth. The wars end very differently, colonialism is still happening, but with varying results. So, yeah. I'm on book 8 out of 9 now, and thoroughly enjoying it.

Pen & Paper

My D&D group is coming to an end - our adventure, that is. Our DM is getting tired, but she still wants to play with us, so we're going to play Vampire: The Masquerade next, and I'm gonna take over as DM. I'm really looking forward to this! We're starting in a couple of weeks.

Now I need to feed my cats, they're complaining.
